Ternion Corporation

Founded in 1989, Ternion® Corporation is a small business with corporate headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama. As a major high-tech center in the U.S. and home of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Command, and the U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command, Huntsville is a rich source of the kind of talented individuals that have made Ternion successful. The company is entirely privately owned, and all the stockholders are full-time Ternion employees.

Ternion is organized into two distinct divisions: the Software Products Division and the Engineering Services Division. The Software Products Division is responsible for the development of FLAMES® and for all of the marketing, sales, technical support, and training activities associated with FLAMES. The Engineering Services Division provides support to FLAMES customers in the form of expert consultation and custom software development.

History

For several years prior to March of 1989, three engineers worked independently and together on the development and enhancement of numerous U.S. government-owned computer simulations. Through their experience with such simulations, these engineers became convinced that simulations of significantly greater capability could be developed and that the development was much more likely to be successful if it was undertaken by a commercial company without government sponsorship. Based on these convictions, the three resigned from their positions and by April of 1989 had founded a new company, a company whose single technical goal was to develop software that would define the state-of-the-art in computer-based simulation and make this software available commercially. The result was the development of a family of simulation products now known as FLAMES, products that have accomplished Ternion’s goal beyond even the founders’ expectations. For those who might be curious, the word “ternion” means “a set of three.” The company name and logo are based on the number of people who originally formed the company.

Corporate Culture

Ternion is committed to a family-friendly work environment that offers employees an excellent work/life balance. Some of Ternion’s family-friendly policies include flexible work schedules, no pressure to work overtime, 100% paid insurance, and paid maternity and paternity leave.

Having spouses and children themselves, Ternion’s founders established policies that allow their employees to put their family lives above work and, more importantly, a company culture that puts these policies into practice. They realized that when employees have fulfilling home lives they are more productive at work, more committed to the company’s success, and more likely to contribute to a positive work environment.

Below are just a few testimonials about working at Ternion:.

Flexibility

The flexibility at Ternion allows me to take care of my parents. This is especially helpful because my dad has several recurring doctors’ appointments that are required to monitor his health.

Ternion’s paternity leave policy…

Ternion’s paternity leave policy made it possible for me to look after my family after our daughter was born. I didn’t have to worry about work when her stay in the hospital ran longer than expected.

Work/Life Balance

At my last job, I was constantly working overtime. It seemed like I never got to go home, and when I did I was too exhausted to enjoy my family. That’s one of the main reasons I decided to come to Ternion.
